Freddy McConnell

We had the pleasure of welcoming writer, journalist and full-time single dad, Freddy McConnell, to Camp Wildfire 2022.  Freddy joined The Guardian as a trainee journalist in 2013, working the multimedia teams in London and Sydney until 2019.  During the same period, Freddy wrote a G2 column about transition and hosted a podcast called Token about social justice in the news.

In 2016, Freddy instigated a project to document becoming a father as a transgender man, 'Seahorse: The Dad Who Gave Birth', which premiered in competition at Tribeca Film Festival in 2019.

Today, Freddy is a freelance journalist for Vice and Elsewhere whilst also working in documentaries as a presenter, story consultant and aspiring director, along with a podcast creator (Pride & Joy) and speaker.
